Customer Reviews Garmin GPSMAP 421s 4-Inch Waterproof Marine GPS and Chartplotter with Sounder I got my monies worth the first day I had
this product on my boat. I was salmon fishing about 4 miles off the coast of Oregon when the fog rolled in and visibility went to about 100 feet. I didnt know much about the product then but knew enough to use the tracking feature from the dock. I was able to follow my track back to the harbor entrance (only seeing the entrance at about 100 feet) Without this product I might still be floating out there somewhere. I'm still reading and trying to make use of all of the features, I think I should have purchased a 441s but othere then that I'm very happy with this purchase

Marine GPS
Garmin GPSMAP 78S 010-00864-01 Marine GPS Navigator and World Wide Chartplotter
This replaces my old GPSMAP 76 which still is a fine machine. The GPSMAP 78S has a more sensitive receiver (it got a cold start fix in 30 seconds in my living room), the menus are intuitive (easy to use) and the color display is easy to see in full sunlight (no back light) and in subdued light with the back light switched on. The built-in compass 3 axis calibration took less than a minute and is easily repeated for each new environment (on board ship, in the car, or in the woods). In short the GPSMAP 78S fulfills my high expectations for quality from Garmin.
I have been using my Garmin GPSMAP 78 for a month now. Easy to use if you download the manual from Garmin.I also downloaded Garmin Base Camp free from Garmin. You can edit your tracks on your PC and transfer back to your GPS. I also purchased the power adaptor, mount and case. I use it on my boat in South Louisiana in freshwater canals that all look alike. I also mark all the good fishing spots. This is a must for the weekend fisherman. It also floats!!! The only added improvement would be a touch screen.
